Pewter has seen a recent revival! It is now chic to buy pewter for every day use instead of silver. Pewter is easy to store, never wears out and on special occasions it provides a striking display. It can also be readily engraved with an inscription by any skilled jeweler. About the only thing which has changed in pewter manufacture is the composition of materials. Originally pewter was made from a composite of lead and tin dating back to 1500 BC. Today, however, the raw materials consist of 95% tin with the balance made up of copper and antimony. The products are guaranteed lead-free and quite safe to be used for all kinds of food and drink.
One of the advantages of pewter is that it does not need regular polishing to maintain its gorgeous appearance; pewter does not tarnish like silver. However, for those people who like to keep their pewter bright and shiny and who like to polish things (you know who you are), an occassional cleaning with a quality proprietary metal polish will keep things looking brilliant.
Alchemy belongs to the time honoured body of master craftsman, 'The Worshipful Company of Pewterers', who were granted a Royal Charter in 1474 by King Edward IV for the legal manufacture of pewterware throughout England. Many of these ancient pewter-smithing skills are still among the methods utilised today by Alchemy to create their highest quality, rich collection of fine English Pewter drinking vessels and giftware.
